Such a pairing would have to show out quickly, though, and sure enough it has. Rico won their fourth race together at the season opener for Central Arizona Raceway. I can’t even guess how many more they’ll get this season.

First of all, it’s on FloRacing, which is (at least for now) the best value that exists in racing streaming services, just because there’s so much on there. The World of Outlaws series, which consider themselves the established leaders in dirt late model and sprint car racing, have their own exorbitantly priced streaming service, and Flo gives you all the same kinds of racing — with many of the same drivers — in different series, plus all kinds of other dirt, pavement, and even snow racing, for (at press time) half the price. So there’s that.

But in its own right, High Limit is just a very rewarding race series to follow. They run 64 races in a season, first of all, with many on weeknights, so if you’re someone who needs racing every night like I do, High Limit has got you. Many of the drivers are fantastic characters, and with Kyle Larson in charge on the business side, there are regular NASCAR tie-ins and crossovers.

This weekend, for instance, High Limit is in Las Vegas and scheduled around the NASCAR weekend. Not only is Larson running, two of NASCAR’s greatest villains — Corey Day and Ty Gibbs — are as well. But despite the constant presence of star power from established dirt racers and NASCAR interlopers, the series embodies its grassroots nature. There are always local aspirants and track legends in the mix, and in a discipline as instantaneous and physical as winged sprint car racing, the competition is always close.

This is a great sign for the overall health of racing, and this sort of top-tier one-stop-shop show is exactly what the scattered fanbase needs. Best of all, it’s a podcast available in both audio and video formats that will come out twice a week. And even though SPEED has adapted to the present-day media environment, its branding and segments — and even its studio — pick up right where they left off.

To me, Interstate Batteries is one of the most iconic racing sponsors ever, and I always love seeing their livery on a sprint car, usually one driven by Christopher Bell. Apparently they like what they see, because now it’s Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing — they’re sponsoring the whole series.

It is big news, therefore, that Flo has bulked up enough to expand into the Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) market, which I’m actually beginning to believe might someday break the dam and liberate us from legacy broadcasting models. The FloRacing 24/7 channel — which is already available on the streaming service and is a good option when there’s nothing on live — will now be available on Prime Video and Fubo, i.e. on ways to watch streaming TV that a meaningful number of people already use.

NASCAR has already been an important partner with Flo, with lots of NASCAR Regional racing (including the Whelen Modified Tour) streaming there, and in related news, Flo will now simulcast some big races with NASCAR’s own FAST channel, which is really good, and which is now available right in the NASCAR mobile app in advance of this season. It’s finally almost easy to watch racing!

It’s just so long and grueling, and the lower brackets put on such bad racing. But that’s because there are HUNDREDS of cars in this thing, and when the cream is finally done rising to the top, it’s usually hardworking aspirant dirt racers versus active top-tier NASCAR Cup Series drivers and the who’s-who of full-time sponsored sprint car drivers and USAC midget champions, not to mention people who have been slogging to win this specific event year after year after year.

One of those aspirants won it this time. I had already tired out by the time the final came on, but I think I’ll go back and watch to get to know Emerson Axsom better. If you win the Chili Bowl, you are special by definition.
